The climate in Taiwan can be hard to get used to for some students. Although it doesn't have many variations, when the changes do come they are usually very sudden and big. The summer months consist of sweltering hot bright sunny days whereas the winter months are known for their long spells of gray overcast weather and cold rains.
Taiwan Weather and Climate
Taiwan is also famous for it's outrageously highly levels of humidity. Year round, being an island, Taiwan is naturally a very humid country. In the capital of Taipei during the summer months you may find yourself sweating as soon as your step out of the shower and dry off. During the winter months you may find it take a trip to the hot springs to finally warm up as the humidity penetrates through your 4 layers of clothing. Sometimes in fact, air conditioners are even used during the winter months for their 'De-humidifier' function, which dries the air inside a room so your wet shoes, jackets, and hair can finally get dry!
Although Taiwan is considered a Sub-Tropical climate, it can get pretty cold here during the winter. The high levels of humidity don't help the situation either, so be prepared to pack warm! One of the biggest things that you should think about when considering the weather is how to pack! You can check out our packing guide here.
