Short Term - Mandarin Chinese Immersion Programs

We all have constraints in life and sometimes getting away to study abroad just really isn’t in the schedule. Fortunately, MTSA also offers short term programs that are customized to fit the time frame you want. 

Study for 1 week, 2 weeks, or 8 weeks. However long you may be able to get away for and come to Taiwan to boost your Mandarin Skills, we can help you build a program for it.  

Our short term programs are designed with the ultimate convenience in mind, and we take pride in them for supporting our slogan "Experience the Freedom".

Requirements: High School Education or higher, at least 18 years of age

Academics

Classes are all individual with the teacher in a one-on-one setting. This allows for the maximum exposure and focus with the teacher to improveany aspect of the langauge students which to speciically focus on. Be preapred to have several teachers for each program to help your variety and exposure to teaching methods, and language patterns.

Class Descriptions

Courses are completely customizable by students. Based on your current ability with Mandarin, interests, and length of study your program will be customized to fit your unique requests.

Schedule

Scheudles for individual programs are completely customizable. Each course can run from 1 - 8 hours per day, course hours are 50 minutes in length each witha 10 minute break between periods. Morning, afternoon,and evening sessions are all available.

 

Students are also welcome to choose a split scheudle (several morning hours and several evening hours) to best fit their desired schedule.

Materials

A wide variety of materials is avaiable for students to choose from on orientation day. Based on each students indiviudal orientation in-take test before the program begins, the teacher will provide some reccomended materials for the student to select from.

 

Non-traditional materials are also commonly used in courses to help cater to student specific interests and provide a wider scope and examples of real world application for the language.

The grading system works on a standard scale of 0% - 100%. The grading is as follows:

 

A 90 - 100%

B 80- 89%

C 70 - 79%

D 60 - 69%

F 59% and below

Travel + Cultural Exchange

MTSA programs bring students more than just the classroom experience. Students will engage in many cultural activities to help build an understanding of Taiwanese and Chinese culture, practice their language skills in real-life situations, and build connections and friendships with local Taiwanese.

Language Exchange Nights

MTSA holds Language Exchange Nights for students to get together, meet new local friends, enjoy food and drinks, and practice their language skills in a real life situation. MTSA L.E. Nights give students the opportunity to get in touch with real Taiwanese culture and use language to learn and communicate with native speakers.

Weekend Cultural Trips

MTSA weekend cultural trips bring students to many unique spots in and around Taipei. Trips range from cultural hotspots such as the famous National Palace Museum to beautiful natural environments such as the nearby WuLai Aboriginal Village.

Semester Adventure

MTSA Semester Adventures are unique every semester. Students will head out on a 3 day trip to explore some of Taiwans natural beauty and learn about the islands history. Semester Adventures involve activities such as hiking, snorkeling, BBQ's, and river tracing. The Semester Adventure is the chance to get student out to experience the natural beauty Taiwan offers and deliver them some historical and cultural knowledge of the past at the same time.

The Mandarin Mentor program is designed to help students get help with any trouble their having while in Taiwan as well as boost their Mandarin skills. Each student is pair up with an MTSA local Taiwanese student to act as their Mandarin Mentor. Students meet once a week with their Mentor in a 1-on-1 session for private tutoring to help them work through any areas or assignments they may need more assistance with.

Accomodations and Meals

Accommodations options for the NTNU program are of full range. Students can choose from standard housing programs, shared housing, and première housing programs. Meal plans are not available, however there are on campus cafeterias as well as a wide variety of restaurants in the surrounding area for students to dine. Eating out in Taipei typically costs between $3 - $10 USD per meal.

Taipei is the capital city of Taiwan, R.O.C. A bustling metropolis with a wonderful mix of modernity and rich cultural heritage, Taipei never ceases to amaze visitors with its sights and sounds. Taipei is also one of the most densely populated cities in the world with a population of just over 2 million.


Taipei is spotted with temples, night markets, skyscrapers, and entertainment venues, all set right underneath the gaze of famous YangMing mountain. Taipei is also renowed for it's international cuisines to visitors, with dishes from all over the globe available in almost every part of the city.
